Many people still have a bad taste in their mouth about NFTs. But it's the hype that did the damage, not the technology. Book NFTs are actually a good idea.
First essay I read that has well-rounded insight and perspective on NFTs. Thank you for that! It's upsetting how language is being changed in works of art, and thus history. How is enormous better than fat as a word? I'm baffled lol. And yikes about video games. It's what happened to PT. It's like it never existed. Darn Konami!
Yeah, enormous isn't much better. What struck me is how much the changes reflect contemporary culture wars instead of actually trying to make the books less offensive. Maybe okay if you scrub the n-word, but change a character from male to female? Why? Or change any mention of "white" to something else? Why? Pretty awful decisions across the board.
Surprisingly or not, if you asked people on the street then and also now, a lot of people wouldn't be offended by the n word, they wouldn't care, they're too busy living life, working, they have greater struggles to deal with than some word, etc. It's oftentimes the vocal minority pushing all this, and it's becoming nonsensical like changing the sex of the character...clearly not due to sensitivity reading but for an agenda. Likewise, sensitivity reading is so hard to measure in terms of objectivity and practicality. For one person what is offensive is not for another.

Totally right. I would hate to have it happen to my fiction.
Sheesh. Ditto!
Very interesting. I've heard bits and pieces but you consolidated and made it understandable.
Excellent article!
Thank you, Finlay!
Very informative, and an interesting concept. Something to consider for me too maybe.
